Mental Health Apps: Virtual Hope Box

rainbow

There are times when one can feel incredibly hopeless, whether it is because of depression or circumstances being experienced. Sometimes, the hopelessness can become so overwhelming that thoughts of hurting or killing oneself occur. In these moments, accessing our reasons for living and what we are hopeful about can keep us safe. However, this can be difficult to access in moments of distress.

Having readily available a set list of reasons for living and activities to engage in to improve how we are thinking and feeling can be incredibly important in these moments in order to keep us safe. This is where the Virtual Hope Box app (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/virtual-hope-box/id825099621) becomes handy.

There are various components to this app. The first is the section for visual reminders, in which you can add pictures or videos of people, places, and/or things that provide you hope or are your reasons for living. There are also links to distractions (e.g., puzzles), inspirational quotes, guided relaxation (e.g., breathing, visualization), and coping tools that can be individualized to the person using the app.

Disclaimer: This app is not a replacement for therapeutic intervention or medication. Particularly for those with more severe or chronic depression, it is recommended that you seek the services of trained professionals in the field of mental health to assist you.
